Pandora CFO Mike Herring has revealed in an interview to Fox Business Network that the company is “going to definitely be in CarPlay” and the Apple Watch.
Pandora has not made any official announcement about supporting Apple’s CarPlay, but its CFO made it clear during the interview that Pandora will definitely be coming to CarPlay and even the Apple Watch.
Pandora’s chief competitors Spotify, Beats Music, iHeartRadio and Rdio already have dedicated apps available for CarPlay.
Pandora has gained much of its 81 million users through its iPhone app, so it only makes sense for the company to build apps for CarPlay and the Apple Watch to keep its current user base intact and attract new users as well.
Herring also states in the interview that Pandora has a “frenemy kind of relationship going on” with Apple. Both companies have worked closely together for the Pandora app on iPhone, and are “close partners” in a “very interesting relationship.”
The rumored upcoming music streaming service from Apple, however, has definitely put a strain between the relationships of both companies. After all Pandora now runs the risk of losing a decent chunk of its user base to Apple’s music streaming service.
